1st July 2010

We had our main tournament for the season, Aussie Champs, where there were four of the Hive girls who competed. For Jacqui and Emma, this was their first Australian Championships and had a tough 1st round match against a strong QLD team who ended up finishing 4th overall in the tournament. Progressing to their second game, they were faced with another tough QLD team, losing a very close three set match. Although they were disappointed to be knocked out, they played the best they have ever played and did very well for their first Australian Championships. Cassie & I were competing in our 2nd Australian Championships and were hoping to finish better than our 17th place in 2009. Our first game was a close match against another strong QLD team. Unfortunately, we lost a tight 2 set match to them. Our 2nd round game was against 2 young AIS girls. We played a tidy match, winning comfortably in 2 sets. Our next game was against a strong Australian junior team, and although we played extremely well, they were too good for us and beat us in 2 sets. We finished in 17th place, equal to our effort in 2009.

Our last tournament for the season was State finals. Four of the Hive girls competed in State finals. Robyn played with a new partner, Karlie Willmott and they played well for their first tournament together finishing with 9th place. Cassie and I played together again and had a solid tournament finishing in 7th place. Sally Greenup played in another new pairing with Anna Guenkel. They played extremely well against a strong field just getting knocked out in the semi-finals by the eventual winners.

We had our season presentation after finals too. I was lucky enough to win two awards, one for “Most Improved” for the season, and the other for “Best Defender”. All of the girls put in a lot of hard work and saw great improvements over the season. We have had lots of great feedback about the bikinis and we have even seen some of the other girls wearing some Hive purchases too. I have included some more pictures for you attached to this email. I will also attach the picture of Cass and I that was in our local paper the Northside Chronicle p63 10/03/10.

Sunshine Coast’s Dimity Stoyle wins the All Girls Surf Showdown at Lennox Head

Lennox Head Northern NSW - The 18th annual and All Girls Surf Showdown enjoyed great waves at Lennox Head today for the 18th annual and biggest All Girl event in Australia.

The blue ribbon Southern Cross Credit Union Open Pro division saw a high quality field attack the final and the result went right down to the final two minutes when Sunshine Coast Queensland surfer Dimity Stoyle found the days highest scoring ride posting an outstanding 9.0 score to take a narrow victory over Cabarita’s Airini Mason (NSW).

“I knew I required a great score on that final ride and the wave lined up really well and I sort of threw caution to the wind, went for some big
moves and stuck them - I felt good when I finished the ride and event better when I realized that wave won the final for me” said an elated
Stoyle after her win.

Stoyle picked up a handy $1000 for her win and she’ll shortly resume her competitive season travelling to South Australia for the Fantastic Noodles Pro Junior in July.

” It’s a fantastic event here at Lennox Head, the waves have been great and the standard of girls surfing all weekend has been amazing” added Stoyle.

The two other Pro divisions saw wins to 18 year old Newcastle surfer Phillipa Anderson  who defeated Kirby Wright in the Freeform Junior Pro  while local Ballina surfer Melissa Combo surfed with superb style and confidence to win the All Girls Surfriders Club Longboard Pro final

Great Results for Alice

Alice has just competed in the third round of the South Australian State Titles.
The weather was not too good with lots of rain, strong winds and choppy water; however Alice finished up winning 2nd in the under 18’s, and also 2nd in the Open Women’s.
This will qualify her to compete in the Open Women’s at National Surf Masters short board comp later this year at Port Macquarie.
Alice has already qualified for the junior national titles held later this year at Phillip Island.
